The Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) has continued its rural outreach programme in Mpongwe District, delivering essential healthcare services to hundreds of residents through a medical camp held at Kasamba Rural Health Centre.
The ongoing outreach, is part of a broader campaign to improve access to healthcare in remote communities.
At Kasamba Rural Health Center, more than 250 people received medical attention in a single day, with services ranging from general check-ups and laboratory testing to dental care, radiology, maternal health, and eye services.
Several complex conditions were identified, including cataracts, hernias, and developmental delays in children—cases which were immediately referred for specialist follow-up.
Expectant mothers also benefited from antenatal reviews, while dozens received life-changing interventions such as tooth extractions and prescription eyeglasses.
Speaking during the camp, Kasamba Rural Health Centre’s Clinical Officer, Mr. Kapu Evans, praised the ZFDS team for their consistent support, noting that their presence had brought much-needed relief to the local facility and surrounding villages.
“This is the only chance some of our people get to see a dentist or undergo an ultrasound scan. The difference it makes is enormous,” Mr. Evans said.
Community members echoed the sentiment, calling for regular visits to help manage chronic illnesses and reduce the cost and distance of seeking care elsewhere.
The ZFDS team is expected to continue with the medical outreach in other parts of Mpongwe District in the coming days.
At ZFDS ,We continue to enhance the Government of the Republic of Zambia and the Ministry of Health priority of Maternal Health care for all.
