Medical Evacuation & Repatriation

Experiencing a medical emergency can be stressful, especially if local hospitals lack the necessary equipment and expertise. In such cases, Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) provides professional medical evacuation services to transfer patients swiftly to advanced medical facilities.

A medical evacuation involves the efficient movement of a patient via Medevac plane, or road ambulance to a hospital equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment and medications. ZFDS ensures all evacuations are conducted by highly trained medical personnel, offering continuous monitoring and care throughout the journey.

This Service guarantees that patients receive the best possible treatment during emergencies, no matter their location. Procedure and Process of Medical Evacuations Requests can be made in three ways:

1. Through the Ministry of Health (MoH): Public hospitals or health facilities can request ZFDS to evacuate patients via the Ministry of Health Headquarters, with costs billed to and paid by the Ministry.
2. Initiated by ZFDS: When ZFDS personnel identify patients needing air evacuation, ZFDS facilitates this at its own expense.
3. By Private Individuals and Organizations: Private individuals and corporate entities can hire ZFDS air ambulance for a fee to evacuate patients who clinically qualify for air evacuation.
