The Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) paid a courtesy call on the District Health Director (DHD) for Mwansabombwe, Dr. Abraham Bupe today the 29th of April,2025. During the meeting, Dr. Bupe commended ZFDS for its continued innovation and unwavering support in strengthening healthcare delivery, particularly in maternal health both in the district and across the Country.
Dr. Bupe highlighted the consistency of our outreach, noting that ZFDS teams were present in the district last month and again this month is a sign of dedication and commitment. He further shared that the district maintains a high-risk pregnancy register to monitor expectant mothers who require early interventions. These cases are now being promptly referred to Ng’anga Bilonda hospital by ZFDS,ensuring timely and expert care is given by the Obstetricians.
This partnership helps us make critical decisions to save the lives of our mothers and children said Dr. Bupe. With timely interventions, we have seen a significant reduction in maternal and stillbirth rates in the district and the province at large.
He also noted that information has been shared with all surrounding health facilities, ensuring swift coordination. Where transport challenges arise, ZFDS has offered to assist with transporting mothers to health facilities bridging the gap between remote communities and life saving care.
Through the active outreach efforts, Dr. Bupe emphasized that ZFDS is truly bringing healthcare to the doorstep of the people promoting equitable access and leaving no one behind.
