Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) has conducted two critical air medical evacuations yesterday , August 14, 2025, demonstrating its essential role in providing rapid access to specialized healthcare.
The first mission was a medical repatriation for a patient covered by the Workers’ Compensation Fund Control Board (WCFCB).
The patient, who is paralyzed in the lower limbs following a workplace accident, was transported from Lusaka to Livingstone.
The ZFDS aircraft, registration number 9J FDS, departed Kenneth Kaunda International Airport at 09:52 and landed at Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport at 11:22, where WCFCB personnel received the patient.
This operation is part of an ongoing partnership between ZFDS and WCFCB to ensure timely air transport for injured workers.
The second evacuation was for a 67-year-old woman referred from Kitwe Teaching Hospital, who was suffering from acute heart failure.
The patient was transported by land to ZFDS headquarters at Zuze Air Force Base in Ndola.
The ZFDS plane departed at 17:04 hours and arrived at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport at 18:02hours
A medical ambulance from the National Heart Hospital was on standby to transport the patient to the hospital for the urgent attention.
These successful missions underscore the Government and the ZFDS's continued dedication to providing life-saving aeromedical services across Zambia.
