The Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) has commenced construction of a crucial helipad at its Ng’anga Bilonda Hospital in Mwansabombwe, a move set to significantly improve emergency medical evacuations in the district and surrounding areas.
Jubilation filled the grounds of Ng'anga Bilonda Hospital in Mwansabombwe District as the Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) marked a pivotal moment with the groundbreaking ceremony for a new helipad.
The significant event welcomed the esteemed King Mwata Kazembe of the Lunda speaking people of Luapula Province.
Upon viewing the ZFDS helicopter at the hospital and the ground breaking ceremony , King Mwata Kazembe expressed his appreciation for the Government's unwavering commitment to improving healthcare access for all Zambians, particularly those living in remote and underserved areas.His lauded the initiative as a monumental development for the local communities.
ZFDS Chief Executive Officer Dr. George Ng’uni emphasized that the new helipad, coupled with the recent addition of a helicopter to their fleet, will enhance the institution’s reach to remote populations, underscoring their commitment to equitable healthcare access.
The groundbreaking ceremony also served as the platform for ZFDS’s Labour Day awards, recognizing twenty eight (28 )employees for their outstanding service and commitment in the various categories ranging from Most productive and self driven,Most improved ,most disciplined etc.
Guest of Honour at the event Mwansabombwe District Commissioner Mr. Ivo Mpasa expressed happiness with ZFDS on how the Service has transformed the hospital which is now able to attend to a number of cases.
Mr.Mpasa encouraged the workers not to be complacent but work to deliver health services to the expectations of the people in the district.
The event was characterized with performances by the nurses on good health practices in the community and prevention of STI’s,the the community, besiders and patients who were able to also participated in the event and gave thanks to ZFDS management and the Ministry of Health for the good services received at Ng’anga Bilonda Hospital.
Awardees spanned various categories, with Mutinta Chuuba, a Registered Paediatric Nurse, named Best Overall Employee, and Jendo Jendo, a Medical Laboratory Technologist, honoured as Best Employee Male.
Volunteer nurse Goodluck Mumba received recognition of his exceptional dedication and was awarded a permanent job.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were the Council Chairperson,his worship Mr.Terrioh Chungu who indicated how happy he was to be part of this team and pledged his continued support to ensure service delivery is enhanced for the people of Mwansabombwe District. The District Administrative Officer Mrs Linety Mbozwa and District Health Director’s representative Mr. Nyambe Nyambe were also part of the Delegation.
The ZFDS management team from Ndola was also part of the ceremony in awarding the deserving employees.A special recognition was given to the Chief Medical Officer,Dr. Tendai Mweemba and the Chief Administrative Officer,Mr Lubinda Mpundu in charge of Ng’anga Bilonda Hospital for the good work they are doing at the hospital.
At ZFDS we strive to ensure efficient and effective Service delivery for all is enhanced.
