The Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) successfully executed the emergency medical evacuation yesterday the 17th of October,2025 of two patients, airlifting them from Mufulira and Mkushi to Lusaka for urgent, specialized treatment.
Both patients, who are beneficiaries of the Workers’ Compensation Fund Control Board (WCFCB), are suffering from Stage 3 pneumoconiosis, a severe lung disease compounded by acute lung fibrosis.
Both individuals required continuous oxygen therapy throughout the evacuation. The operation was initiated following an emergency call from WCFCB.
ZFDS rapidly mobilized both its road and aero-medical evacuation teams in ensuring swift transportation of the Patients.
The first patient was transported by ambulance from Mufulira to the ZFDS Headquarters at Zuze Air Force Base, where the medical aircraft and crew were prepared for the evacuation.
The aircraft, registration number 9J-AGC, departed Ndola at 08:53 hours and landed safely in Lusaka at 11:45 hours.
Upon arrival, an ambulance was on standby to transfer both patients directly to the International Hospital of Zambia (IHZ) for specialized treatment and continued medical care.
The patients remain admitted at the hospital.We wish the Patients a quick recovery.
