In a coordinated effort with the Ikelen’gi District Health Office, the Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) successfully evacuated two patients from Kalene Mission Hospital to Lusaka for urgent, specialized medical treatment on the 11th September,2025.
The emergency evacuations were requested by the local District Health Office and quickly approved by Dr. Kennedy Lishimpi, the Permanent Secretary for Technical Services at the Ministry of Health.
The two patients, a newborn and a 56-year-old man both needed advanced medical care unavailable in their local area.
A ZFDS aircraft left Ndola at 9:21hours and arrived in Ikelen’gi just after 11:00 hours.
After the patients were safely boarded, the plane departed mwinilunga at 12:15 hours, landing safely at the Kenneth Kaunda international Airport ZAF base in Lusaka at 14:15 hours.
Ambulances from the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) and the National Heart Hospital were on hand at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport to immediately transfer the patients for further care.
