On 26th July 2025, the Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) conducted a medical outreach during the Kwilimuna Traditional Ceremony under Chieftainess Malembeka in Mpongwe District on the Copperbelt.
The event provided a vital opportunity to deliver healthcare services while strengthening ties with local communities and leadership.
The ceremony was graced by several traditional leaders and the Guest of Honour was the Copperbelt Provincial Minister, Hon. Elisha Matambo, who was accompanied by the Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Mr.Lawrence Mwanza.
Chief Mulemena, representing the Kaonde people, delivered an inspiring message about unity, stating:
"This is the true definition of togetherness — when government, traditional leaders, and service providers walk hand-in-hand. Tribe is not a barrier when we are moving forward together as a nation."
This aligns with Zambia’s national motto: “Tiyende Pamodzi” (Let’s move together) as One Zambia one nation.
As part of the outreach, ZFDS provided the following health services free of charge to community members;Ophthalmology (Eye clinic services),Dental services,Laboratory testing,Antenatal services,General health screening
A total of about 331 patients were attended to during the outreach. No emergency cases or referrals were recorded, reflecting smooth and effective service delivery.
The ZFDS team will be in the district for 7days providing the services in the following facilities;Kanyenda,Kasamba,Nampamba,Kalweo,Machiya and Mwinuna.
ZFDS remains committed to supporting traditional ceremonies as platforms for community outreach, cultural preservation, and the promotion of national unity.
