In a coordinated effort to provide critical medical care, the Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS), in partnership with the Workers' Compensation Fund Control Board (WCFCB), has successfully airlifted several patients with severe spinal injuries to Lusaka for specialized treatment.
The patients, all beneficiaries of the WCFCB's rehabilitation program, were transferred from various remote locations across the Country.
Yesterday ,Thursday, the ZFDS carried out two separate aeromedical evacuations from Kasama, Mansa and Livingstone .
The first mission used aircraft 9J-FDS to transport two paraplegic patients from Livingstone.
The plane departed from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) in Lusaka, flew to Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport in Livingstone, and then returned to Lusaka.
Upon arrival, an ambulance from Fairview International Hospital was waiting to receive the patients, who were immediately transported to the hospital for further care.
On Friday a second mission was launched with aircraft 9J-AGC.
This flight picked up one patient in Mansa and additional patients in Kasama before flying them to the Zambia Air Force Base at KKIA in Lusaka.
All the patients suffered from paraplegia and spinal injuries due to occupational accidents.
They are now receiving advanced medical review at Fairview International Hospital.
These coordinated missions highlight the vital role the ZFDS plays in providing timely aeromedical services.
