The Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) has evacuated two patients suffering from pneumoconiosis from Mufulira to Lusaka for specialized treatment at the International Hospital of Lusaka.
The evacuation, initiated by the Workers Compensation Fund Control Board (WCFCB), Director of Compliance and Compensation Services, Maybin Nkolomba highlights ongoing efforts to enhance access to critical healthcare for workers affected by occupational diseases.
The operation began with Helicopter 9J-KDK, which departed Ndola at 07:57 hours and arrived in Mufulira at 08:16 hours.After boarding the patients, the aircraft departed at 08:30 hours and returned to Ndola at 08:50 hours. The mission was piloted by Zacharia Mbewe and Timothy Gibbs.
The patients were then transferred onto Caravan aircraft 9J-AGC, piloted by Siposami Zulu and Elvis Kite, which departed Ndola at 09:22 hours and arrived in Lusaka at 10:20hours.
Upon arrival, the patients were immediately taken to the International Hospital of Lusaka for further treatment.
ZFDS reaffirmed its commitment to providing timely aeromedical services and strengthening partnerships to improve healthcare delivery across the country.
