The Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) has been providing medical services at the Kulamba traditional ceremony of the Chewa people in Katete district, Eastern Province being held today 30th August,2025.
This year's ceremony, hosted by Paramount Chief Kalonga Gawa Undi, drew thousands of attendees from Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique.
The traditional ceremony is being graced by Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, President of Malawi, and Mr. Hakainde Hichilema,President of the Republic of Zambia.
The ZFDS Board Chairperson, Dr. Rosemary Kumwenda did yesterday pay a courtesy visit to Paramount Chief Kalonga Gawa Undi at his Mkaika Palace.
The ZFDS team will attend to a minimum of 250 patients daily ,the areas include Chibolya, Mkaika,Mnthipa, Katiula and Vulamkoko which will be the last station on Wednesday before the team decamps.
Dr. Kumwenda stated that the medical team will provide free medical services, such as general screening, eye care, dental, pharmacy and laboratory services and will be in the district for a period of eight (😎 days.
These services are being offered to communities around Katete at the local health facilities accommodating visitors for the ceremony.
The Board Chairperson was accompanied by Mrs Clarissa Chikamba-Sefuke, Mrs. Luyando M. Shimalukwe, Mr. Chama Chilatema, Dr. Tendai Mweemba, Mrs. Catherine Sarbabi Chanda and Mr.Kumbukilani Mwale.
Earlier in the day, Dr. Tendai Mweemba also paid a courtesy call on the Eastern Province Public Health Specialist, Dr. Benard Chimungu.
Dr. Chimungu expressed his support for the initiative and pledged to help ensure its success.
The Zambia Flying Doctor Service's initiative to provide medical services at the Kulamba ceremony and in the district is part of the ongoing commitment to bring healthcare to underserved communities and reach a large number of people providing essential medical care and promoting health awareness.
