Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) Board Chairperson Dr. Rosemary Kumwenda, together with Board Member Mrs Clarissa Chikamba-Sefuke and ZFDS Director Legal Services and Corporate Affairs, Mrs. Luyando M. Shimalukwe are in Western Province to strengthen support for rural healthcare delivery.
While in Mongu, the team paid a courtesy call on Western Province Minister Hon. Kapelwa Mbangweta, indicating that the ZFDS was extremely grateful to the Government of the Republic of Zambia for recapitalising the Service.
Dr.Kumwenda noted that the renewed support is helping the Service reach more remote and hard-to-reach communities across the Country in ensuring universal health care for all is achieved.
She also appealed to the provincial office for the rehabilitation of rural airstrips through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to improve access to health services in remotest parts of the province.
Hon. Kapelwa Mbangweta welcomed the ZFDS team and commended their work, stating that the recapitalisation reflects Government’s strong commitment to delivering healthcare closer to the people.
The ZFDS team lead by Dr. Kumwenda also paid a Courtesy call on his Majesty King Litunga Lubosi Imwiko ll of the Lozi speaking people and he was very happy to receive the team. He indicated his support for the ZFDS which has become a sure partner in ensuring health care for his people.He also commended the ZFDS for playing a vital role in bridging the rural healthcare gap and ensuring eye health services are enhanced in Western Province.
The Board Chairperson congratulated his majesty for marking 25years on the throne and for the commitment in allowing the Service to conduct their outreaches in the Province.
Since Sunday, the team having being led by Dr. Chisanga Puta,ZFDS Director Medical has been offering free medical services in Mongu and have attended to different kinds of medical conditions supporting residents and visitors ahead of the Kuomboka Ceremony which comes to an end tomorrow.
During the visit the team also took time to appreciate the beauty of Western Province.
