The Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) successfully evacuated two male patients from Mongu to Lusaka for specialized medical treatment today, 10th May 2026.
The two patients had initially been admitted to Kaoma District Hospital following a road traffic accident (RTA) that left one patient with a severe head injury and the other with a spinal injury.
The hospital’s Medical Officer-in-Charge, Dr. Henry Kalunga, submitted a formal request to the Ministry of Health, requesting ZFDS to airlift the critically injured patients to a higher-level medical facility for advanced care.
The Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Dr. Kennedy Lishimpi, authorized the evacuation request, enabling ZFDS to promptly mobilize for the life-saving mission.
ZFDS aircraft 9J-AGC departed from the ZFDS Zuze Base in Ndola, crewed by Captain Chanda Mumpangwe, Captain Siposami Zulu, Paramedic Susan Banda, and Dr. Jonathan Masalo.
