The ZAF/ZFDS teams have launched an eight-day medical outreach in Sinazongwe District, beginning with a significant donation to a local hospital.
Leading the mission, internal medicine specialist physician from Roan General hospital , Dr.Yukki Bulaya paid a courtesy call on Maamba General Hospital yesterday, where a total of 1,600 syringes were donated to the facility.
The team also met with Sinazongwe District Health Officer, Calveston Machila, and District Commissioner Nchimunya Siakole as part of their visit.
Following the donation, the ZFDS/ZAF team kicked off its service delivery at Sinazeze Health Post, where they attended to an impressive 294 patients on the first day alone.
The services provided included general health screenings for 131 people, dental care for 38, eye care for 99, and laboratory services for 26.
Welcoming the initiative, Commissioner Siakole stated the outreach would significantly ease the burden on the district's health system.
He noted that residents often have to travel long distances or be referred to Zimba District Hospital for specialized care.
“This medical team has brought relief not only to our health workers but also to patients who sometimes fail to travel to referral facilities outside the district,” he said.
Over the coming week, the ZFDS team will continue its work at various health posts in Sinazongwe and Maamba, offering a range of services from dental and eye care to pharmacy and lab tests.
This is part of the ongoing ZAF /ZFDS medical and relief outreach and a key component of the SADC Aviation Committee's regional disaster response exercise under their Corporate Social Responsibility called "Exercise Blue Lugwasho 2025"
