A 50-year-old woman from Chiti Chiti Village has received surgical relief from a lipoma that had caused her pain and discomfort for more than four years.
The procedure was performed by the Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) during a medical outreach program in Nabwalya at the Lufila Health Post.
The patient, who has not been identified, had a growing swelling that caused persistent pain and sleep disruption.
She had sought medical help at multiple hospitals, but her condition was reportedly misdiagnosed as being related to high blood pressure, leaving her without effective treatment.
Dr. Dawn Sichimba, a Medical Doctor with ZFDS on the outreach, performed the surgery, which involved the excision of the cyst under local anesthesia.
"I am so happy and grateful to ZFDS and Dr. Sichimba," the patient stated. "For over four years, I have lived with this pain, and now I finally feel free. I can sleep and carry out my daily activities without discomfort."
The ZFDS aims to address the healthcare needs of individuals in remote areas who face barriers to accessing standard medical facilities.
