A security guard critically injured in a rockfall at a named mine in Luanshya, copperbelt province has been flown home after two months of hospital treatment.
The man, in his mid-twenties, was working for a private security firm contracted to a mining company when the accident occurred late last year.
He sustained severe pelvic injuries and was airlifted by Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) Medical helicopter 9J KDK for emergency surgery to Lusaka on 21 November 2025.
On Wednesday 28 January 2026, ZFDS completed the final stage of his medical journey by flying him back to the Copperbelt.
The ZFDS Aircraft registration number 9J ACG departed from the Services' Headquarters in Ndola at 10:40 hours and landed in Lusaka at 11:40 hours to pick up the patient.
Paramedics Sampa Chibwe and Philip Besa prepared and accompanied him on the return flight, which landed back in Ndola at 13:13 hours.
The repatriation flight was requested by the Workers' Compensation Fund Control Board (WCFCB) , which is supporting his ongoing rehabilitation.
The Aeromedical evacuation highlights the importance of continuous medical care for workers injured on duty - from emergency evacuation through treatment to safe return home.
