The Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) has evacuated former Cabinet Minister and former Roan Member of Parliament, Dr. Chishimba Kambwili, to Lusaka’s Maina Soko Military Hospital for specialized medical treatment after being involved in a severe road traffic accident.
The accident took place on the Luwingu-Kasama road in Northern Province.
Tragically, the accident, which occurred yesterday, claimed the lives of two of Dr. Kambwili’s brothers.
Dr. Kambwili, along with other victims, was initially treated at Kasama General Hospital before the medical evacuation.
With approval from the Ministry of Health (MOH) through Permanent Secretary Technical Services,Dr. Kennedy Lishimpi ZFDS dispatched an emergency plane to Kasama.
The ZFDS aircraft, 9J-FDS, arrived at Kasama Airport at 13:00 hours to transport Dr. Kambwili and other injured passengers to Lusaka.
Upon landing in Lusaka at 16:25 hours, paramedics were on standby at the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Base at City Airport to safely transfer the patients to medical facilities.
Dr. Kambwili has been referred to Maina Soko Military Hospital, while two other passengers involved in the accident, Kennedy Mwila and Kennedy Mambwe, have been taken to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) for orthopedic and specialist evaluations.
The ZFDS through the Ministry of Health and the Government of the Republic of Zambia emphasizes its commitment to delivering timely and professional emergency medical services across the Country.
The Service extends its heartfelt wishes for a full and speedy recovery to all the patients involved in the accident.
