Today, 6th April 2025, the Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) successfully carried out two emergency medical evacuations from Kasama General Hospital to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka.
The patients of both adult males sustained traumatic cervical spine injuries in separate incidents. One was injured in a road traffic accident, while the other fell . They presented with serious neurological symptoms, including limb weakness and paralysis, requiring urgent specialist care to prevent long-term complications.
Following Ministry of Health approval, both patients were stabilized with spinal precautions and pain management before being airlifted by the ZFDS team.
Upon landing in Lusaka, the patients were swiftly handed over to medical staff from UTH for advanced treatment and care.
These missions highlight the vital role ZFDS plays in delivering timely, life-saving care to those in critical need regardless of distance.
The Ministry of Health continues to ensure good health outcomes are achieved for all but ensuring quick authorizations are done for the emergency evacuation services through the ZFDS.
